The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom – A Visionary Fiction Alliance Book Review by Victor Smith

A possible dream

With almost 3,000 reviews on Amazon for this book, will another make a difference? Likely not so much, but there are certain works that one should not read without leaving the author a note of appreciation for a book well written and thoroughly enjoyed–as has been the case for every Mitch Albom I’ve read so far.

Without recapping or spoiling anything, I’ll mention that there is currently a serious effort being made, by scientists teamed with psychics, to reliably connect heaven to earth with an electronic device. Google “SoulPhone” for information and check out the work of Dr. Gary Schwartz of the University of Arizona.

I don’t know if Mitch Albom was aware of Gary’s work or if we have a “100th Monkey” phenomenon going here, but the link between earthly and heavenly (post-earthly) existence seems to be getting thinner by the day.

Albom’s book is easy reading, suspenseful, and incredibly hopeful for those–all of us–who have had someone we loved dearly pass to the other side.

  1. How nice that you took the time to write this thoughtful review, Victor. I love Mitch Albom’s work, especially “Tuesdays With Morrie.” His message is truly insipred.
