Author: Brendan Graham Dempsey

Brendan Graham Dempsey is a writer, artist, musician and editor with a background in Biblical Studies. He holds a BA in Religion and Classics from the University of Vermont (summa cum laude) and, after graduating, completed an academic monograph on the gospel of Mark while living at the Albright Institute in Jerusalem. Abandoning biblical scholarship in 2011, he spent the next four years in residence at a Burlington, VT artist collective called Aesthesia, engaged in independent study and writing. Returning to school in 2015 with a new focus, he earned his MA in Religion and the Arts from Yale Divinity School (literature concentration), where he worked closely with poets Christian Wiman and J. D. McClatchy. He holds a certificate from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Brendan is currently at work writing his personal mythology, a lifelong multimedia project called the Icon, which fuses his love for creative writing and scholarship by presenting a future civilization’s canon of scripture in the form of an annotated critical edition (www.theannotatedicon.org). Inspired by the endeavor, he started the Personal Mythology Project in 2019 to help other people craft their own mythologies (www.personalmythologyproject.com). Meanwhile, he continues to pursue his goal of starting a garden commune in Vermont (www.meadowrevolution.com) while contributing to developments in post-postmodern literature and philosophy (www.reconstructionistart.com). He lives with his fiancée in Morrisville, Vermont. He is 29.
