Build Your Own Author Website—Step 6: Video Review

For a super quick review of what we’ve covered so far in “Build Your Own Author Website” steps one through five, here’s a video created by Daniel Piechnick, a professional web designer and trainer.

In less than ten minutes, he’ll explain

  • Domain Name
  • Web Hosting
  • WordPress

He’ll then take you step-by-step from purchasing your domain name through installing and logging in to your WordPress website.

How to Create a Website or Blog: Review

The only difference between  Daniel’s steps and mine is that he uses Fat Cow instead of Blue Host as a web host and he uses one of the free WordPress.org themes called Bold R Lite instead of BookSnapper, which, for a small fee, is customized especially for authors.

He also gets a bit ahead of what I’ve covered so far by taking you through a few steps in customizing your site. Don’t worry, we’ll get to selecting your theme, customizing your site, and writing your first blog post later. Plus much more.

I suspect that Daniel’s video will reinforce all the steps and decisions you’ve made so far.

If not, watch the video a second time and a third. It’s only 6.4 minutes long.

WordPress Website: Review

Another video you might find helpful is WordPress for Beginners. In ten minutes, it will explain everything you need to know about WordPress.

  1. thank you yet again, Margaret, for this helpful series. Although I have had my website up for years, I always appreciate step by step instructions with explanations like this. Never know when I might go ahead and update my site on my own!
